7 Ways to Stop Negative Thoughts
Focusing on negative thoughts is the quickest way to stop you from finding out your real purpose and joy. Use these 7 tips to start to shift your mindset and start focusing on the positive in your life.
1 – Meditate
Practising meditation on a regular basis will help bring you into the moment as you focus on your breath. Instead of your thoughts jumping to what could happen, or what has already passed that you can’t change, meditation helps to bring you back to the now, the most critical moment. 2 – Surround Yourself with Positive People
When you find yourself stuck in a pattern of negativity, talk with people who can help you to put things in perspective. When you surround yourself with positive people, you will start to feel better about the things in your life, and they won’t help to feed into your negative thinking.
3 – Look for the Good in Situations
Consider how you perceive setbacks and challenges in your life. Do you always focus on the negative? Even the worse situations have something positive to take away from, so shift your focus and look for the good in even the most challenging conditions.
4 – Exercise
If you find that you are having trouble getting out of a negative thought pattern, take a break and do some exercise. It doesn’t necessarily mean hitting the gym for an hour-long workout, but just going out for a brisk walk can significantly change your headspace. Exercising helps to relieve tension and stress, which are contributing factors to negativity.
5 – Stop Making Mountains Out of Molehills
If you want to take action and move forward in your life, you have to stop turning small or medium-sized challenges into monster obstacles. The simplest way to ground yourself in this kind of situation is to ask yourself if the situation will matter in five years, or even five weeks.
6 – Write Positive Affirmations to Remove Negative Thoughts
Positive affirmations are positive thoughts or statements that can motivate us and keep our mind focused on the goal that you are trying to achieve. Positive affirmations are written on a regular basis or repeated over and over again either aloud or in the mind. These positive repetitions can reprogram our thinking patterns and transform our thoughts, habits and actions in a new way.
